Abstract
The exploring exponential use of solar photovoltaic systems in power grid has put forth the need of accurate, reliable and scalable metering solutions that allow desirable monitoring and control of energy generation. This review paper explores the development and functionality of electronic watt-hour meters provided for remote monitoring and control applications in solar Photo Voltaic systems. These metering devices are facilitated with advanced embedded systems and internet of things connectivity to provide accurate accountability of important parameters including voltage, current, frequency, power factor, exchange of units, fault identification, islanding control and total power output. Through an analysis of recent studies, and its simulation using MatLab Analysis, review examines the accuracy, communication capabilities, and energy management benefits of these meters in Photo Voltaic applications. More focus is stroked on the remote monitoring functionality, which enables real-time data collection and fault detection, allowing for efficient maintenance, reduced energy losses, and improved overall performance of Photo Voltaic systems. This review article concludes that electronic watt-hour meters with remote monitoring capabilities play a vital role in enhancing grid stability, supporting proactive maintenance, and optimizing the integration of renewable energy sources.
