The field of architecture is focused on space which is reduced to an object. The society, as the subject, seems to be ejected from the center of the architecture. However, society and space is not a fissionable entirety, contrarily they compose a network intertwined to each other. In architecture in which space is being considered from one point of view, the significance of the place notion, which expands the scope of space embracing not only the physical but also the mental and the experiential practices, seems to be wasted early even unrealized. Therefore, this article aims to argue the meaning of place differing from space, the relationship between the place and space, body, subject through conceptual instruments and also to remind the forgotten subject to the practice of architecture.

Mimarlık bilgi ve üretim alanı, nesne haline getirdiği mekana odaklıdır; öznesi olan toplumu merkezinin dışına atmış gibi görünür. Halbuki toplum-mekan sarmalı parçalanabilir bir bütün değil, iç içe geçmiş, içeriden okunabilecek bir ağ örgüsüdür. Mekanın tekil bir bakış açısıyla ele alındığı disiplinde, mekanın kapsamını, sadece fiziksel olanları değil, zihinsel ve deneyimsel pratikleri de içine alacak şekilde genişleten “yer” kavramının önemi çabuk tüketilmiş hatta tam da anlaşılmamış gibidir. O nedenle, bu makale, “yer”in, mekandan farkını, barındırdığı anlamları, mekanla, bedenle ve özneyle ilişkisini kavramsal araçlarla tartışmayı, mimarlık pratiğinde unutulan “özne”yi hatırlatmayı hedefler.
